Five Ideas for a Unique Wedding Theme

No bride or groom likes to imagine that their wedding will be just like everybody else’s. It’s the most special day of their lives, and they want (and deserve) it to be a special, unique event that could never be replicated anywhere else. Unfortunately, more often than not, it will be very similar to at least one hundred weddings occurring that same day. Anyone who’s been to more than a handful of weddings will know that they all start to blur into one after a while, and than most of them look and feel the same.

Things don’t have to be that way, though. If you’re prepared to put a little extra time and effort into wedding planning and think outside the box, you could come up with a wedding idea that stands out from the crowd. The best way to do that is by coming up with a theme and having all of your guests dress to match it. You might not be the first person in the world to have used the theme, but you can at least be relatively sure that none of your friends will have encountered the theme before. That makes for a more enjoyable occasion, better photographs, and most importantly of all, better memories.

Finding a suitable theme is easier said than done, but we’re here to lend a hand on that front. Here are five off-the-wall wedding theme ideas that will make your big day stand out from the crowd!

A Fourth Of July Party

This idea will (probably) only appeal to our American readers – although it would be even more unusual as an idea in Europe! The 4th of July in America is one of the biggest party occasions of the year because it’s Independence Day. It’s a celebration of the country finding its own feet and striking its own path in the world – just as you and your partner are doing by getting married! The only problem with July 4th parties is that they only come around once a year – unless, that is, you turn your wedding into one.

Everyone loves Independence Day parties, and therefore it follows that everyone will love your wedding. Take some tips from the cities that celebrate the occasion best, and turn your wedding into a celebration of all things great about America. Go as far with the theme as you like, but why have a white wedding when it could be red, white, and blue?

A Casino-Themed Wedding

Let’s be real for a second here. Getting married is a gamble. Why not take that thought to its logical conclusion, and go with a casino-themed wedding? Casinos are hotspots of entertainment and fun, and you at least wouldn’t have to worry about your guests getting bored at your reception. You could have card and poker tables set up, and maybe even a roulette wheel if you can find the space! People expect to dress their best to get into a casino anyway, so there’s no risk of your occasion looking shabby. Consider looking at a few online slots websites for inspiration. You’ll find lots of theme ideas there. In fact, you might want to consider looking at a few online slots websites and mobile slots promotions so you can put some practice in on the games before the big day arrives. There are so many genres and themes to online slots that you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Vintage Video Games

Video games aren’t the preserve of geeks anymore. Almost everyone is a gamer to a greater or lesser degree, and most couples getting married today will have had at least a few favorite video games when they were growing up. We’ve even heard crazy tales of people getting legally married within video games. You don’t have to go that far – but you could turn gaming into a theme for your wedding.

A good costume store should be able to provide you with at least a few outfit choices for a gaming-themed wedding. Some of the best examples we’ve seen in the real world have included Super Mario or Sonic The Hedgehog themed weddings, but you don’t have to stop there. Zelda? Pokemon? Both would make strong style choices. We’d probably avoid Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty – but that’s up to you!

Playing Pirates

Pirates are cool. Don’t ask us how it happened or when it happened; it’s just become an accepted fact at some point during the past forty or fifty years. Maybe it was a generation of readers growing up on ‘Treasure Island.’ Maybe it was Johnny Depp’s career-defining performance in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Whatever the cause, it’s an established convention, and it makes for great visuals.

This is a theme you can really go to town on. You could make your whole wedding reception venue look like a pirate ship. In some locations, you might even be able to hire a ship for the day and turn the theme into a reality! False beards and fake parrots everywhere, the father of the bride pretending to have a peg leg – the possibilities are endless!

Day Of The Dead

A wedding symbolizes the end of one chapter in your life and the start of a new one – so why not make that transition a literal one by insisting everyone comes dressed like it’s Halloween? Better still, why not specifically go for a zombie theme? A zombie bride is a classic Halloween costume, but how many people have had the bravery to actually come to their own wedding as a zombie bride?

Part of the joy of a zombie-themed wedding is that you don’t have to worry about looking a little disheveled as the night wears on, and the party kicks into full gear. In fact, the more disheveled you become, the better it will suit the theme. This is perhaps the only type of wedding where the evening photographs will look even better than the daytime photographs!

The only limitations on the theme of your wedding are those put there by your own imagination. If you want a wedding day like no other, you have to make it happen, so don’t be afraid to be different. Get together with your partner, get brainstorming, and pick a theme that excites both of you. Not only will it be the biggest day of your lives, but it’ll also be a day that your friends talk about for years to come, too!
